When it comes to hair restoration awards and recognition, few surgeons have a record as broad as Dr. Ron Shapiro’s. He is one of the only physicians in the world to have received awards from every major hair transplant society, including the European Society of Hair Restoration, the Japanese Society of Hair Restoration, the Brazilian Society of Hair Restoration, the Italian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Earning honors from societies across five different regions is uncommon in this field, and it reflects the respect Dr. Shapiro has earned from peers who practice under very different standards, techniques, and patient expectations around the world.

This level of awards and professional recognition stems from more than surgical volume alone. Dr. Shapiro’s awards and honors are closely tied to his academic contributions and recognition within the specialty, years spent presenting at international meetings, publishing on surgical technique, teaching workshops, and helping refine the methods that many hair restoration surgeons now consider standard practice. Golden Follicle Award for Clinical Excellence

In 2004, Dr. Ron Shapiro was honored with the Golden Follicle Award, given for “outstanding and significant clinical contribution in the field of hair restoration surgery.” It is considered one of the highest honors in the field with only one physician chosen by his or her peers each year.

“The Bald Truth” – Consumer Guide Book

The book The Bald Truth (published by Pocket Books, a division of Simon and Shuster) recognizes Shapiro Medical Group’s physicians to be among the top 10 in the world who specialize in Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. The 200-page paperback, sold as “The first complete guide to preventing and treating hair loss,” was written by Spence Kobren, founder of the AMERICAN HAIR LOSS COUNCIL.

Co-Author Textbook "Hair Transplantation"– Known as “The Bible” of Hair Transplantation

Dr. Ron Shapiro co-edited Hair Transplantation, the 4th edition in 2005 and the 5th Edition in 2010.This Textbook is often called the “Bible” of Hair Transplantation. It is used as a textbook by physicians learning the art and science of hair transplantation.

Pioneer of the Month

In 2004, Dr. Ron Shapiro was named Pioneer of the Month in the journal, Hair Transplant Forum, the principle publication of the field of hair transplantation.

Kare 11 News Extra!

Minneapolis-based KARE 11 News did a report on hair transplantation that featured Dr. Ron Shapiro and a live surgery demonstration on a patient at the International Society of air Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) annual meeting in Las Vegas.

The "Hairline Master"

Dr. Shapiro developed many of the modern Principles & Techniques of Hairline Design. He wrote the “landmark article” on creating natural hairlines used by physicians learning the Art of Hairline Design. expertise in hairline design has led Dr. Ron Shapiro to being named either chairman or guest speaker for the Hairline Workshop at the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) over 15 times in 20 years.

"The Hair Replacement Revolution" – Consumer Guide Book

Dr. James Harris’s Past President of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) wrote the book The Hair Replacement Revolution: A Consumer’s Guide to Effective Hair Replacement Techniques. In this book, he recommends Dr. Shapiro & SMG Physicians among only 21 other physicians in the United States performing hair transplantation surgery.

"Michel Angelo Award" from the Italian Society

Dr. Ron Shapiro was awarded the Michelangelo Award from the Italian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHR). He has visited Italy nine times to lecture and perform live surgical demonstrations at ISHR conferences. He has also received three other awards of recognition from the Italian Society.

Board of Governors for International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) 6 Years

The ISHRS is the main society for hair transplantation in the world. Dr. Shapiro was voted by his peers to serve on the Board of Governors for the ISHRS. He served from 1998 to 2004. All the physicians who work at SMG are members of the ISHRS

Fellow of the ISHRS (FISHRS)

The Fellow of the ISHRS category is a recent honor that can be achieved by physicians who have demonstrated significant teaching/writing / and serving to help spread the educations of hair transplantation. All the physicians who work at SMG are Fellows of the ISHRS

"Guest of Honor" - European Society Hair Surgery

Dr. Ron Shapiro was chosen to be the guest of honor at the 10-year anniversary of the European Society of Hair Restoration Surgeries. The first physician to receive this honor, Dr. Shapiro was recognized for his dedication to the field in teaching and performing live surgery demonstrations at every European conference.

"Guest of Honor" - Brazilian Society Hair Surgery

In 2014 Dr. Shapiro was chosen as guest of honor at the 8th Brazilian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery for his contribution to educating physicians and improving the field over the past 15 years.

The American Medical Review shot a documentary to be aired on educational television featuring The Shapiro Medical Group Physicians.

“Diary of a Balding Man” is the story of Brian’s experience of losing and then regaining his hair. Brian is a film producer and winner of the United Kingdom Bafta Film Award for best new producer/director in film (the equivalent of the Oscar in the U.S).

Board of Governors American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery [ABHRS] from 2010 to 2015

The ABHRS is the primary board for testing and certifying that physicians are qualified in the art and science of hair restoration Dr. Shapiro was voted by his peers to serve on the ABHRS from 2010 to 2015. All the physicians who work at SMT are members of the ABHRS.
