Ronald SHAPIRO, MD
Ron Shapiro, MD, Medical Director of Shapiro Medical Group, is recognized around the world as a leader in the field of Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation. In 2003 & 2010 he co-authored the major medical textbook, Hair Transplantation, 4th Edition (published by Marcel Dekker). This book is often referred to as the “Bible” of hair transplantation and is used by physicians all over the world.
In 2005, Dr. Shapiro received the Golden Follicle Award from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) during their annual meeting in Sydney, Australia. This prestigious award is given for outstanding contribution to the advancement of the clinical practice of hair transplantation surgery.
In 1997, Dr. Shapiro was one of the first physicians in the U.S. to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS). The same year he was chosen to serve on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), the largest organization in the field of hair restoration surgery.
Dr. Shapiro has the unique distinction of being the first physician invited to perform a live surgery, demonstrating the technique of Microscopic Follicular Unit Transplantation for his peers, at the ISHRS annual meeting in Las Vegas in 1995. Since that time he has continued to be chosen every year to lecture and perform live surgical demonstrations at national and international conferences. To date he has lectured at more than 40 conferences in more than 25 cities around the world.
In 1997, he was asked to be the guest of honor and guest lecturer at the European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ESHRS) for their 10th anniversary conference. This was the first time this honor had been given by the ESHRS.
The book, The Bald Truth (sold as “The First Complete Guide to Hair Loss”), established SMG’s physicians to be among the top 10 in the world performing and specializing in Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation.
Dr. Shapiro is listed on a number of consumer websites and Internet blogs specializing in hair transplantation as one of the top physicians in his field. There are hundreds of posts by patients in the discussion forums of these websites testifying to skill of the physicians and the quality of the caring staff SMG.
Dr. Shapiro is currently on staff at the University of Minnesota Department of Dermatology as an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Instructor and regularly gives lectures to residents about the procedure he performs.

David Josephitis D.O.
Dr. David Josephitis joined Dr.’s Ron and Paul Shapiro at Shapiro Medical Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 2013, as a hair transplant surgeon. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) and the American Board of Internal Medicine, and he is a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). Dr. Josephitis has practiced the art and science of hair transplantation in the U.S. for several years, having trained with and worked alongside some of the industry’s most experienced, well-regarded physicians. He has honed his surgical skills in microscopic follicular unit transplantation and follicular unit extraction and comes by his “artist’s eye” naturally.
Dr. Josephitis received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. He spent a year at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, focusing on biology and foreign studies. Dr. Josephitis earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Following his internal medicine residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Josephitis completed a sanctioned fellowship in hair transplantation surgery. He has lectured and performed hair restoration procedures for several ISHRS live surgery workshops.
A heartfelt desire to help men and women improve their appearance, self-confidence and outlook on life motivated Dr. Josephitis to emphasize hair restoration surgery in his practice of medicine. Paul SHAPIRO, MD
Dr. Paul Shapiro has trained extensively with and worked alongside his brother, Dr. Ron Shapiro, for more than 10 years. Dr. Paul Shapiro has developed a faithful following as a result of his excellent work in the field of hair transplantation. He serves as Assistant Medical Director for SMG. Dr. Shapiro is a Diplomat of the American Board of Hair Transplantation and a member of the European Society of Hair Transplantation (ESHRS) and the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).
Dr. Shapiro has published a number of articles in the area of hair transplantation and cosmetic fillers. He also conducts seminars on the subject in the Minneapolis area, educating prospective patients on hair loss and the life-improving surgical procedure performed at SMG.
He has been invited to lecture at international hair transplant conferences and recently spoke on the subject of hair transplantation in women. He is currently recommended by many satisfied patients on independent consumer Internet forums including The Hair Transplant Forum and Coalition of Independent Hair Transplant Physicians.
